Swan Gatsby Toaster Review

The Swan Gatsby Toaster is a stainless steel four slice toaster with a 1920s inspired design available in both black and white. One of its key features is its ability to toast bagels, and similar large items. It achieves this through the use of wide slots which are self-centring so as to provide an even brown.

It has a large number of features. They include for each pair of slots, a variable browning dial, a reheat function, a defrost button, a cancel button and a bagel option. It has extra wide slots and an internal lifting mechanism has been specifically designed to not jam up and get stuck.

Let's now look at the features in a bit more detail:

• Variable Browning - Each side has a variable browning control with seven options. The toaster is able to gently tan toast, make it golden brown, or dark and crunchy, and more.
• Defrost / Reheat / Cancel / Bagel - Each pair of slots has four buttons. "Defrost" will toast bread from frozen without making it soggy. "Reheat" will make already toasted toast hot if it cools down. "Cancel" will stop the toasting cycle altogether. "Bagel" is designed specifically to evenly toast bagels (and similar) - not many toasters have this fourth option.
• Self-Centring Guide - The automatic centring guide will give your bread an even toast.
• Wide Slots - The toaster has wide slots to accommodate large items such as crumpets, bagels, croissants, teacakes, hot cross buns, etc.
• Bread Lift - The toast can easily be lifted out of the toaster far away enough from the slots to prevent burnt fingers.
• Removable Crumb Tray - The toaster has a removable crumb tray to facilitate a quick and easy clean up.

Summary

The Gatsby Toaster impresses both on the style and functionality front. It's chic design, shadowy finish and matt black casing with diamond detailing is certainly reminiscent of the 1920s. It has the usual features such as reheat, defrost, a high lift, an even brown and a removable crumb tray. We particularly like the bagel function which makes it one of the few bagel toasters in existence. We rate the Gatsby Toaster 4 out of 5 stars.
